Kettle corn

Sunday night: Nick is downstairs tooling away on his slide guitar, it's wafting up through the vents and it sounds like he may have allowed himself the indulgence of plugging in the amp.  In our old apartment it was always time consuming and organizationally challenging for Nick to pull all of the necessary instruments and electrical things out of the closet to play for just a short while, but here, all of our things are in one big room, it's so easy.  This is one of the many perks of taking advantage of a free basement.

Today we slept in until 7:40, it was luxurious.  One of the ways I've found to feel useful in this time of unemployment and independent wealthiness, (haha) is to get up early each morning and keep a regular schedule of sorts, so 7:40 and no alarm was nice.  After tea and toast, we moseyed downtown to the last day of Riverfest, a Dubuque end of summer affair with local bands and fair food and crafts.   There was a spirited Country Western/ Bluegrass, 5 piece band that got a pair of locals two steppin'.

And, as you can see from the pictures, there was more sun, and I, happily have a few more freckles than I did yesterday.

Theresa knows the main guys wife, and is friends with the slide guitar player,  the lady on the mandolin is married to the bass player, and the main guy is cousins with the keyboard player.  That's how things work here.

A fair is not complete without fair food, and the kettle corn was amazing.

Nick doesn't mind demonstrating how to munch on kettle corn, he likes the full hand in mouth method.

Get used to this face, it's the face of "When is Carleen going to get sick of taking pictures of me for the dang blog?"

And now my friends, Masterpiece Mystery is calling my name, there is a new Inspector Lewis on, and,  from the sound of it, Nick is making some more candy corn and dry roasted peanut mix, life is grand.
